The waiting is (almost) over – the date for this year’s SPARKies Awards has been announced! We sat down with Sarah Keates, Queen of Events at TechSPARK, to get all the juicy details for this year’s awards…
The SPARKies are back!
Sarah: I know! After being founded in 2012 to show off the local tech talent, the SPARKies Awards have proved to be very popular, and have grown substantially every year. Last year I won an award myself – the Totally Killing It Award for the VR World Congress – and there were some big names that also won including Wriggle, Ultrahaptics, and Nick Sturge.
Last year, the SPARKies Awards celebrated well into the night…
Sarah: The party game was strong, but there was so much to be celebrated! The South West truly is a vibrant area for the tech community, out-innovating London and cementing itself as the hub for tech start-ups in Europe. The SPARKies celebrated that, and we celebrated in style!
I think it’s the wide variety of tech start-ups and companies that have impressed us here in the South West. What sort of nominations are you looking for this year?
Sarah: Absolutely anyone who is doing something different with technology – even if you aren’t a technology company yourself! There were some surprising nominees last year that actually came through and won their category, so we are asking people to have a good think about those who deserve an award, no matter how large or small the company, or tenuous the link!
Most people wonder whether they can nominate themselves or their own company for an award…
Sarah: Go for it! There’s no shame in that: how else will the world discover what you’re up to?
