Objectives

We worked with CyNam, Cheltenham’s cyber cluster, for two of their leading conferences in 2021. CyNam 21.2 was a virtual-only event due to the ongoing pandemic, whilst CyNam 21.3 was their first-ever hybrid showcase. We were tasked with amplifying awareness of the two events through PR and digital marketing, with a focus on press releases, social media, LinkedIn group outreach and newsletters, which in turn significantly increased registrations.

Results

Across eight press releases, the total audience reached was c600,000 people in local and industry publications. Five emails were created for CyNam 21.2, two for CyNam 21.3 and we assisted with two monthly update emails. Also, there was a 20.58% increase in the open rate of newsletters for the first event. CyNam 21.2 received 780 registrations, a record for the time, whilst there were 1,100+ unique visits to the broadcast portal on the day of the showcase. Meanwhile, CyNam 21.3 received almost 600 registrations for both in-person and virtual attendance.

Journalist approaches saw articles landing in TechSPARK, SoGlos and Punchline Gloucestershire, with an additional feature in Techbrittania with CyNam’s Managing Director.

“Thanks to the contributions made by the OggaDoon PR and Digital Marketing team, the company got record traffic during the day of the event, with more than a thousand unique views to their broadcast portal as well as media coverage and impressive engagement on social media.”

Challenges

The first event was still during the height of COVID restrictions, which meant it was harder to reach people directly. However, this presented an opportunity to include people from outside Gloucestershire and across the UK’s cyber sector. For the second event, hybrid conferences were still a new concept and so different tactics were used to attract people to virtual and physical registrations.

Strategy

Simon and Elena met with CyNam’s Clare and Eleanor to gain updates on content for the event. Content calendars were created to help spread announcements across a six to eight-week period, including the list of sessions, the launch of the broadcast portal and countdowns to the showcases. Having previously worked in the events sector, Simon used his previous experience to create a sense of urgency and FOMO to help drive engagement.
