Challenges
At the beginning of the partnership, OggaDoon stringently managed relationships with the press and local community whilst it received opposition. Several months after the Facility became operational in October 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic meant that site tours and visits were paused, whilst the Facility’s operations continued as usual. OggaDoon helped with the communications across this period, before managing expectations when site tours reopened and demand was higher than ever.
Strategy
We worked with UBB and Gloucestershire County Council to agree on a communications plan as part of the Facility’s contract, sketching out key messaging, ideas for content pieces and ways to engage the local community.
OggaDoon was proactive with crisis communication planning and responded to any high-priority requests.
We regularly met with the internal Facility team and the Council to establish progress on activities for the upcoming period. All communications were sent to all parties before publishing to ensure they aligned with key messaging and the contract. We also maintained the website, updating information, job listings and results from the Facility as and when it was required.

Testimonial from Dan Pearson, General Manager at the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility:
“Across the 9 years, OggaDoon expertly managed the PR for the Facility to improve relationships with the local media and community. As an extension of the team, they provided valuable strategy and communications to promote the energy from waste process and how the Facility benefits the neighbouring area. We can’t recommend them highly enough!”
