Challenges
Journalists who professionally review gadgets and tech gear will have their inboxes constantly full of different pitches – so how do we cut through the noise and get them interested? Sometimes even sending a unit for them to try out isn’t enough to guarantee a review.
A tried-and-true trick that we rely on for getting reviews for our clients is careful targeting. We can’t just send these amazing products to anyone and everyone that wants a unit, but must carefully assess the value we can gain case by case.
To secure a review we make sure to follow up, as many times as necessary, after sending out the sample. It’s the only way to ensure the client’s name is at the forefront of the journalist’s mind.
Strategy
The key to getting product reviews is focusing on the right people and publications. We need to be certain that we can get a good, strong review that focuses on the aspects of the product we want to highlight and is seen as valuable and informative by the target customers. This requires in-depth research into their previous work and their audience – taking the time to choose the best people to approach is critically important to ensure maximum impact within the set budget and time frame.
