Objectives

We helped Light Up Bristol with crisis comms following negative local and regional press coverage about their Christmas light display at Ashton Court. Stepping in with immediate effect, we provided expert crisis brand advice, strategic planning, and original content to help minimise impact, stall future negative coverage and encourage people to go to the event.

Results

The brand’s reputation remains generally positive and the negative press did not stop new visitors from attending the event.

Challenges

All press isn’t good press, especially if it’s impacting your sales. So we needed to help Light Up Bristol reverse the reputation caused by negative media and get people going to their event.

Strategy

The first step was to assimilate and assess the situation, diving into the causes, evidence and impact. From that, we developed a plan with key messages and tactics including a response to negative press that highlighted the positive responses of those who had visited. We worked with Bristol City Council to ensure that the event was run within COVID guidelines and was not misleading for visitors. We also helped Light Up Bristol to create new digital content to encourage new visitors, increase positive news and strong shareable UGC.
