Objectives

The Conqueror appointed Oggadoon to create a strategic and tactical PR plan to support the launch of The Lord of the Rings virtual fitness challenges, together with The Conqueror app in the UK.  This initial project was to build awareness of The Conqueror app by utilising the Warner Brothers Lord of The Rings IP and imagery, used in the virtual mobile app based challenge, via PR, brand partnerships and an influencer campaign.

The second phase was to increase support, via a monthly retainer agreement, to promote the wider portfolio of challenges. The objectives again were to drive conversions and drive deeper brand equity. This was focused on creating a positive social impact, which was to encourage their target audience to go out, exercise, stay motivated and conquer their fitness goals in an emerging gamification environment. A glowing example of tech for good.

Results

In the first 2 months PR alone raised over $50,000 in sales. During 6 months, Oggadoon landed 29 articles for The Conqueror, including 23 editorials and 6 advertorials, with a total of 363,482,670 MUVs.

Challenges

At the time of the Oggadoon collaboration with The Conqueror, it was new to the UK and the wider global gaming community press so their profile had to be raised from scratch.

The partnership with Warner Brothers and its investment in the Lord of The Rings IP involved respecting and following very strict promotional guidelines and timescales to fit in with licensing rules. The team at Oggadoon secured engagement from journalists and publications prior to the approval to press go.  The press had expressed interest and a desire to be further involved when the content was ready.

Whilst the teams were waiting for approvals we saw the start of the Russia -Ukraine War and The Conqueror development team quickly created the “Stand with Ukraine”  challenge.  We had some initial concerns and advised caution around promoting a brand in the advent of a crisis, however this promotion was mainly within the supportive confines of The Conqueror community users who could virtually explore the beautiful landmark of Kyiv as well as donate to Ukraine. The campaign raised $500,000 for the Red Cross and Save The Children organisations to deliver aid to Ukraine. We were pleased to promote this to the press as a fine example of mobilising an online community using ‘tech for good’ in an authentic way.

Strategy

Oggadoon created a strategic (paid and organic) PR plan targeting key influencers and opinion leaders in the UK market.  This included the gaming, health, fitness, travel and green  press, celebrities, as well as micro and macro social media influencers.  This started as a campaign around The Lord of the Rings, then it  was updated to promote the broader portfolio of The Conqueror adventures.

For the wider portfolio, the core messaging was developed around 6 themes which placed The Conqueror proposition ‘authentically’ in the day to day lives of the target consumers’, making the angles relevant to the press and their editorially centred coverage.

📖Themes

  • Travel and exercise  in the post-pandemic era
  • Real-life case studies of adversity
  • Seasonal gifting and special occasions like Father’s Day
  • Staying motivated during the heatwave of summer
  • Self-consciousness, self-appreciation, body transformation
  • CSR- The Conqueror driving sustainability – Real Impact (8 million plastic bottles and planting 6 million trees)

✍️Journalist reviews

Part of our PR outreach involved a press review outreach with tier 1 UK publications and consumer magazine titles and journalists, who reviewed the product and then wrote about their experience promoting the product in their own authentic way.

🔗Brand partnerships

Part of the campaign development and execution included reaching out to the publicists and agents of the original Lord of the Rings cast members to explore a  social media ‘unboxing collaboration’. We negotiated a brand partnership with the Friendship Onion, which has a global audience of passionate Lord of The Rings fans as it is also hosted by Billy Boyd and Dom Monaghan AKA Pippin Took and Meriadoc “Merry” Brandybuck.

📢Micro and macro-influencers

Oggadoon also established the influencer campaign for The Conqueror in the UK. This involved researching key nano and micro-influencers in this space. Firstly Oggadoon identified and categorised influencers with 30k then up to 100k  to 500k, looking at the quality of output and audience engagement on their social channels.

On selection, the next steps involved negotiating gifted and paid-for collaborations with the influencers, and mapping out expectations together with contracts on the output of the collaboration. This is key to any successful micro and macro influencer campaign.

The Conqueror can now track the success of the gifted and paid influencer partnerships using the promotional codes promoted via the social reviews,  posts and video descriptions of the challenges that create great organic impressions, authentic brand engagement  and awareness.
