Watch out for SPhotonix! This startup has an incredible solution for data storage and data archive challenges that can last for millions of years. Spun out off the back of outstanding research from University of Southampton’s Optoelectronics Research team, led by Professor Peter Kazanky, which developed the technology to nano-etch onto  5 D Memory crystals, interest in SPhotonix and its multiple use applications is global.

The University of Southampton’s announcement that the team has etched the human genome onto a 5D memory crystal garnered world wide media coverage. Most recently, SPhotonix was invited to the biggest energy sector event at Abu Dhabi, ADIPEC, where CEO Ilya Kazansky gave a live interactive demonstration of data being etched onto a crystal. The energy sector in particular has a major problem with rapidly scaling data storage needs, escalated by use of AI, so there is great need for innovations like this.

SPhotonix is the latest business to develop ‘tech-for-good’ solutions, as its unique 5D memory crystal provides a solution that avoids use of energy-hungry traditional data storage options, and the process in itself has high environmental performance. It’s an exciting time to be working with such a visionary, value-led company. We’re looking forward to every challenge and opportunity we’ll come across as we continue to deliver marketing strategy, PR and media plans, digital marketing and social media marketing services.
