The creator ads revenue sharing means that X influencers can receive a portion of the ads revenue that is generated from ads that are placed under their tweets and on their profile.
So, what does this mean for general users and influencers?
Well to receive any portion of revenue you must initially be highly influential on the platform, generating over 15 million organic impressions over 3 months, so around 166 thousand impressions a day. You must also then pay out of your own pocket to be eligible by subscribing to Blue. Finally, you must have at least 500 followers, which I’m sure would come with generating millions of impressions.
For the every day social media user, receiving any sort of revenue is not very likely. Even for most influencers, reaching millions of monthly impressions is a dream. The small percentage of macro and mega influencers that are already using X have posted their earnings from the ads revenue scheme, and in March they shared a $5 million payout, with the top earner receiving over $100k.
Does this effect the accessibility and reach of influencers?
Given the limited accessibility of the scheme, most influencers will not be eligible and so shouldn’t be affected by the introduction. The reach of influencers however will be impacted if they are not subscribed to Blue, as the platform prioritises content that is posted by Blue users. So if using X as a platform to promote your brand, or to use influencers, then it is worth making sure that you’re all Blue subscribers otherwise your reach will be limited. There is also then the small chance that your content can generate an income…
