Cottesmore, a British boarding school, has recently welcomed a new member of staff. AI chatbot, Abigail Bailey, has joined as a new principal headteacher. The technology hasn’t been brought in to replace jobs, but rather to support the current headteacher.
The AI chatbot utilises deep learning and generative AI in a similar way to Open AI’s ChatGPT. The role of the AI headteacher will be to support on issues such as drafting school policies and supporting children with ADHD.
The school has quite a commitment to AI, with Abigail Bailey not being the lone digital employee. The school also has an AI chatbot as its Head of AI.
So, teachers, don’t worry! AI is not coming to take your jobs, but rather enhance and support it. Over a third of teachers currently use AI to help them in their role. From lesson planning to report writing, to responding to emails, and even detecting AI plagiarism. AI tools are great accompaniments to the soft-skills held by human educators.
