Last week marked Google’s 22nd Birthday.

To mark the 22nd Birthday of the infamous Google, we thought we would take a trip down memory lane to remember where the big G started and how far they’ve come.

Google officially launched on 8th September 1998, but they’ve been celebrating their birthday on 27th September since the inception. Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998 when they were both still Ph.D. students at Stanford University. The pair set out to improve the way people interacted with the wealth of information on the World Wide Web, and so, Google was born!

As for the word “Google”, it comes from the mathematical term “googol” (we have no idea what a googol is either, don’t worry). This name was the foundation for what would become the biggest tech giant the world has ever seen with a trailing-12-month (TTM) revenue of $161.9 billion, TTM net income of $34.3 billion, and a market cap of $787.6 billion.

The name would also become the foundation for a pretty cool logo. Let’s take a trip down memory lane to see how it has evolved.

To celebrate its own Birthday, Google created a Google Doodle which features the logo ‘G’ sitting in front of a laptop doing a video call. The birthday celebration video call is with the rest of the letters – OOGLE. Very in keeping with the times.

Happy Birthday Google!
